Laser Therapy for Smoking Cessation
Our laser therapy for smoking cessation has a 73% success rate, far above any other methods commonly used for quitting smoking. Commonly used nicotine replacement therapies such as the nicotine patch (13%), nicotine inhaler (17%), nicotine gum (18%) and nicotine nasal spray (24%) do not even compare (Nicotine Replacement Therapies in Smoking Cessation – A review of Evidence and Policy Issues: Canadian Council on Tobacco Control).
Our results are based on tracking our clients’ success between 3 and 6 months after a course of treatment. After this period of time our treatments usually have been concluded and the client is a non-smoker all on their own. It allows for a small amount of recidivism (falling off the wagon) but eliminates most.
How Does Laser Therapy Work?
When a low-level laser is used to stimulate specific points on the body, the stimulation of these points on the skin and underlying muscles activates the nerve pathways that travel from the nerves to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the brain. These altered neurological reflexes then transmit messages to higher nervous centres (Laser Therapy – Clinical Practice & Scientific Background: Tuner & Hode).
Laser therapy stimulates the release of high levels of endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and other neurotransmitter substances in the body that provide relief from the effects of withdrawal symptoms, and also causes them to be produced in the body for longer periods of time than traditional acupuncture methods. With these chemicals present in the body, the need to ingest addictive substances to generate these chemicals are greatly reduced or non-existent and withdrawal symptoms such as cravings and urges to ingest nicotine, irritability, anxiety, nervousness, headaches, and increased appetite are dramatically reduced to a manageable level or totally eliminated
Will Laser Therapy Work for Me?
Not all people react in the same way to laser therapy, and one person may not always react the same way after each treatment. As well, some pharmaceuticals can interfere with the laser therapy treatments and produce varied results. The vast majority of our clients do experience very positive results. Certain medical conditions may impact the effects of a treatment and sometimes additional treatments given a few days apart can help achieve optimal results. If optimal results are not achieved, we may offer additional free treatments at our discretion. We cannot offer a 100% guarantee that you will quit and stay quit since it also depends a lot on your will to quit. We will always work with you to the best of our abilities to help you achieve your goal of becoming a non-smoker.
How Does Laser Therapy Work for Smoking Cessation?
A low-level laser is used to stimulate specific points on the ears, face and hands, which releases the body’s own natural endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine and has a calming effect on the central nervous system. This release of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, also replaces the physical dependency on nicotine and helps to alleviate the cravings, anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.
Each laser therapy treatment takes about half an hour and there is no discomfort during or after the treatment. Even after one treatment, the effects can last from 30 to 45 days. Laser therapy is also the only smoking cessation treatment that helps to suppress the appetite and reduces stress and anxiety associated with quitting smoking.
