Quit Smoking Safely and Effectively with Laser Therapy!

A low-level laser is used to stimulate specific points on the ears, face and hands, which releases the body’s own natural endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine and has a calming effect on the central nervous system. This release of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, also replaces the physical dependence on nicotine and helps to alleviate the cravings, anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.

Laser Therapy for Smoking Cessation

Our laser therapy for smoking cessation has a 73% success rate, far above any other methods commonly used for quitting smoking. Commonly used nicotine replacement therapies such as the nicotine patch (13%), nicotine inhaler (17%), nicotine gum (18%) and nicotine nasal spray (24%) do not even compare (Nicotine Replacement Therapies in Smoking Cessation – A review of Evidence and Policy Issues: Canadian Council on Tobacco Control).

Our results are based on tracking our clients’ success between 3 and 6 months after a course of treatment. After this period of time our treatments usually have been concluded and the client is a non-smoker all on their own. It allows for a small amount of recidivism (falling off the wagon) but eliminates most.

How Does Laser Therapy Work?

When a low-level laser is used to stimulate specific points on the body, the stimulation of these points on the skin and underlying muscles activates the nerve pathways that travel from the nerves to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the brain. These altered neurological reflexes then transmit messages to higher nervous centres (Laser Therapy – Clinical Practice & Scientific Background: Tuner & Hode).

Laser therapy stimulates the release of high levels of endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and other neurotransmitter substances in the body that provide relief from the effects of withdrawal symptoms, and also causes them to be produced in the body for longer periods of time than traditional acupuncture methods. With these chemicals present in the body, the need to ingest addictive substances to generate these chemicals are greatly reduced or non-existent and withdrawal symptoms such as cravings and urges to ingest nicotine, irritability, anxiety, nervousness, headaches, and increased appetite are dramatically reduced to a manageable level or totally eliminated

Will Laser Therapy Work for Me?

Not all people react in the same way to laser therapy, and one person may not always react the same way after each treatment. As well, some pharmaceuticals can interfere with the laser therapy treatments and produce varied results. The vast majority of our clients do experience very positive results. Certain medical conditions may impact the effects of a treatment and sometimes additional treatments given a few days apart can help achieve optimal results. If optimal results are not achieved, we may offer additional free treatments at our discretion. We cannot offer a 100% guarantee that you will quit and stay quit since it also depends a lot on your will to quit. We will always work with you to the best of our abilities to help you achieve your goal of becoming a non-smoker.

Each laser therapy treatment takes about half an hour and there is no discomfort during or after the treatment. Even after one treatment, the effects can last from 30 to 45 days. Laser therapy is also the only smoking cessation treatment that helps to suppress the appetite and reduces stress and anxiety associated with quitting smoking.

FAQ’S

    • How many treatments will I need?

The laser therapy for smoking cessation includes the initial treatment and one free follow-up within 90 days. Most people do not need more than the initial treatment and one follow-up to quit smoking successfully. In the unlikely event that you need additional follow-up treatments, we charge a nominal fee for each additional follow-up treatment.

    • Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the laser therapy?

Be prepared to “tough it out” until the treatment takes effect. Most people start feeling the effects of the treatment within a few hours but it usually takes 6 to 12 hours before your nicotine cravings are curbed by the effects of laser therapy. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you DO NOT SMOKE after your treatment. If you cheat and smoke before the treatment takes effect, you may inhibit the overall effectiveness of the treatment.

    • Other things that you can do?

Clean your house and vehicle and throw out your ashtrays, lighters and cigarettes before your initial treatment. Set up an appointment to get your teeth cleaned. Carry bottled water with you at all times to help with the habit and to help flush the nicotine out of your body.

    • Can I use the patch/gum in conjunction with the laser therapy?

We do not recommend the use of any nicotine products in conjunction with the laser therapy, as we are trying to help you get the nicotine out of your body as quickly as possible without the side-effects. If you feel the need to use something in conjunction with the laser therapy, there are herbal remedies available at most health food stores that can help reduce the cravings and calm the nerves naturally.

    • Well how about vaporizers?

Do not use the vaporizers that deliver nicotine. Any nicotine you ingest while taking laser therapy will minimize the effects of the treatment. The whole point is to get you off of nicotine. The non-nicotine vaporizers are okay but it will almost certainly prolong your efforts to break your habit of smoking. Most people can break their smoking habit and smoking addiction within a few weeks with laser therapy. However, if you keep using a vaporizer, then you will likely drag that process on for many months and make it much more likely that you will “fall off the wagon”.

    • What about weight gain?

We include appetite suppressant points free of charge with the laser therapy. It is still important that you eat healthy, get regular exercise and drink lots of water.

    • Are there any side-effects?

After 40+ years of use, there are no known side-effects. Most people feel more relaxed, sleep better and are a lot less irritable and cranky after the laser therapy treatments.

    • Is it painful?

No, but some points can be sensitive due to physiological disturbances in the body and it is also completely non-invasive.

    • Will my benefit plan cover Laser Therapy?

Benefit plans vary from company to company. Some benefit plans do cover laser therapy, often under a health spending account, or they have specific coverage for smoking cessation treatments. We do not offer direct billing so you will have to submit your receipt to your benefit provider.

    • Is it guaranteed?

It works well, however results may vary from person to person. It is also important that you want to quit smoking and are willing to do your part when you do hit a bump in the road. Part of smoking is the nicotine addiction and other parts of smoking are mental and habitual. There is no such thing as a treatment, pill or patch that will change your habits. It can take a few weeks to change your habits and some triggers may cause some annoying moments while you are learning to be a non-smoker. We do promise good results but there is no “miracle cure” when it comes to quitting smoking.

    • Is it safe?

It is extremely safe and there are very few contraindications. We will not treat anyone who is pregnant, or anyone with cellulitis or any other bacterial infection of the skin. And we recommend that you talk with your physician before using laser therapy if you are currently taking any cancer treatments.
